PETOSKEY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — If you live around Petoskey, you have the chance to be in a music video next week with country artist, “Cowboy Jax” Young to help raise awareness for veterans.
Jax and his team are looking for anywhere between 50 and 500 people who will line the streets of downtown Petoskey for the story of a veteran coming home.
When Young first visited Petoskey, the vice president of his foundation, S.A.V.E. Home Front knew it would be perfect for a project like this.
“When I crest the hill, I was just like ‘Wow, this is unbelievable,’ and having 17 years of professional entertainment background I was like we’ve got to do something here,” Young said.
The country music artist is using downtown Petoskey to accompany his song “Leave a Light On,” telling the story of a female veteran coming home.
“Her significant other originally doesn’t support her in the way that she needs to be supported,” Young said. “He feels that angst, and in the process writes a song and that song goes viral and it’s inspired by the green lights you can put in outside fixtures to show community support for veteran transition.”
Young hopes the video will help veterans find the support they need from the community.
As a veteran himself, Jax Young had a traumatic brain injury for 15 years and understands the struggles veterans go through.
“Ended up homeless, living in a garage and that eventually led to me attempting to take my life,” Young said. “Coming out on the other side, I realized what was a moment of crisis for me was a lot of people’s every day life and I felt like God put me in a position to see these things and be able to come out on the other side.”
